In a momentous milestone for the fashion landscape of Waikiki, Dior’s flagship store has officially opened its doors, becoming a striking addition to the vibrant Kalakaua Avenue. Spearheaded by Dickinson Cameron, the project’s extensive scope included a comprehensive core and shell transformation, integrating essential infrastructure upgrades and a meticulous approach to exterior landscaping.
During the tenant improvement phase, the installation of a state-of-the-art mechanical system took center stage, with a chiller strategically placed in the basement and a condenser on the roof. This phase also saw the construction of catwalks, contributing to the overall functionality of the space. Notably, the entire project was designed with sustainability in mind, aiming for LEED certification, showcasing Dior’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
The flagship store’s exterior is a visual marvel, featuring a distinctive two-layered glass storefront adorned with mesh (Cannage), X-metal cladding, and an impressive 6-foot canopy supported by structural steel. Overcoming logistical challenges, including street closures on the bustling corner of Kalakaua Avenue, the installation involved crane lifting operations to hoist enormous glass pieces over 24 feet high barricades.
Addressing structural intricacies, Dickinson Cameron navigated the removal and reconstruction of a structural concrete beam, employing shoring techniques and raising the lower level by 6 inches to accommodate new ceiling heights. These meticulous adjustments showcase the intersection of aesthetics and functionality in the store’s design.
Internally, the renovated space boasts 20-foot-high ceilings, providing an expansive and inviting atmosphere. Dior’s commitment to offering a tailored shopping experience is evident in the distinct sections allocated for Men’s, Women’s, and Ready-to-Wear departments.
The grand opening marked the culmination of this transformative journey, inviting patrons to explore the fusion of global luxury and the serene spirit of Waikiki. Notably, a temporary store, crafted by Dickinson Cameron during the construction period, ensured uninterrupted access for fashion enthusiasts.
Dior’s Waikiki flagship store stands as a testament to meticulous planning, innovative design, and a dedication to sustainable practices, creating a harmonious space where fashion enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the timeless elegance of the brand.
