Located in Honolulu, HI, the new Dickinson Cameron-built Louis Vuitton Gump store is the only building Louis Vuitton owns in the US and is a the retailer’s flagship location. Our team loved working on this project for a number of reasons including the scale of the project, our opportunity to solve complex issues and the chance to work on a project that is truly unique to this world-renowned brand.
Dickinson Cameron oversaw the demolition of the entire interior basement and first and second floor. Next, the team worked on the addition of a 1,500 sf second floor terrace and the creation of a new 7,000 sf sales area and 3,000 back of house. Staying true to one of the primary Dickinson Cameron tenants, this project was completed in 7 months despite unforeseen structural issues with this 90-year-old building.
This space exceeded our expectations for a number of reasons … Let’s start with the art! Artists from outer islands were commissioned to draw free-hand art on walls while custom paintings were brought in from Paris and across the globe. Custom millwork was crafted and installed by Goebel Fixtures. The grand stairwell made of exotic wood finishes and Italian blue leather wrapped handrails furnished and installed by Linder Enterprises. A combination of coral tile flooring and oakwood planks turned the floor into a work of art i and of itself. Everything was tied perfectyl together with the unique cobalt blue glazed tile under the stairwell.
While the interior was completely reworked, the exterior was preserved in order to conform with the Waikiki Historical Society requirements and to blend seamlessly into this community. Dickinson Cameron Construction is proud to be part of a project like this and honored to team up with Louis Vuitton once again.
